JEWELLERY CARE & CLEANING

Fine jewellery is made to last for generations, with a little care, it keeps its brilliance for a lifetime. Here is how to look after your Izmirian pieces at home, and when to bring them to us.

EVERYDAY CARE

  • Put jewellery on last, after make-up, perfume, and hairspray, and take it off before swimming, showering, or sleeping.
  • Remove rings and bracelets during cleaning, gardening, sport, and the gym to avoid knocks and chemical contact.

CLEANING AT HOME

For gold and diamond pieces, soak briefly in warm water with a drop of mild dish soap, gently brush with a soft (baby) toothbrush, rinse, and pat dry with a lint-free cloth.

Treat delicate stones gently, pearls, emeralds, opals, and turquoise should only be wiped with a soft damp cloth. Avoid soaking, ultrasonic cleaners, and any harsh chemicals or chlorine.

STORAGE

Store each piece separately in a soft pouch or a lined box so stones and metal don't scratch one another. Keep silver in a dry place to slow tarnishing.

PROFESSIONAL SERVICING

We recommend bringing your jewellery to the atelier once a year so we can check settings and clasps, tighten prongs, and re-polish as needed. Get in touch to arrange a complimentary inspection.

JEWELLERY CARE TIPS

  • Remove jewellery before physical or rough activities to prevent damage and loss of brilliance.
  • Avoid exposure to salt water, chlorine, and harsh chemicals.
  • Do not wear rings in swimming pools or cold water, as fingers may shrink and rings can slip off.
  • Apply hairspray, makeup, creams, and lotions before putting on jewellery.
  • Store jewellery in a clean, fabric-lined case with separate compartments when not in use.

5-STEPS TO CLEANING YOUR JEWELLERY AT HOME

  1. Fill a bowl with warm water and add a small amount of dishwashing detergent. Stir gently.
  2. Soak the jewellery in the solution for about 10 minutes.
  3. Using a soft toothbrush, gently brush the piece, especially around prongs, corners, and gaps.
  4. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Cover the drain or use a strainer to avoid losing the item.
  5. Pat dry with a soft cloth, then place it on a towel and let it air-dry completely before wearing.
